At the moment I'm playing with Jekyll. For a site as simple as this one (structure wise) it would be ideal. And I really like it. The learning curve is really not steep and mastering it would maybe speed up the time to make static sites in the future.

The missing support for comments and a site wide search is not a big deal for static sites, but as far as I can see I can not mix in a simple php page, which takes away the possibility to build in a simple contact form. The only easy solution I see so far is simpleform but I don't like it.
So for now I have to look what plug ins are needed to solve that problems.

Update

About nine years later I did the switch to a static site generator. Just not Jekyll, but 11ty.
